This offering of the North American native Manfreda virginica comes from the northwestern edge of its range in the tall grass Downs Prairie region of Arkansas...thanks to plantsman Aaron Floden for sharing. The 1' tall x 2' wide deciduous offsetting rosettes are composed of fleshy grey-green leaves, often spotted with round liver colored blotches and topped in mid-July (NC) with 6' tall spikes of unusual, spidery-like flowers, dominated by the extended cinnamon and yellow anthers. Manfreda virginica is quite easy to grow as well as being very drought tolerant.
