We are very excited to offer this seed-grown strain of Manfreda maculosa from a very robust population northwest of Hondo, Texas (just west of San Antonio). These giants were discovered by our friends at Yucca Do, who noticed that in addition to the superb spotting, the rosettes were 50-100% larger than normal. For us, each rosette reaches nearly 1' tall x 2' wide in good garden soil. The grey green, deeply-channeled leaves are heavily speckled purple. In late May (NC), the winter deciduous clumps are topped with 3' tall spikes, ending in a spire of tightly clustered round flowers that open cream and morph to lavender pink. Manfreda maculosa is very easy to grow and amazingly drought tolerant, but equally tolerant of rainy conditions. We think this giant form of Manfreda maculosa is one of the most desirable of the manfreda species, both for foliage and for flowers.
