This 1990 introduction from Mrs. Alexander of York, England, made my tongue wag on a 1994 trip to England. For those that have found the species too invasive, L. 'Alexander' offers a slower growing alternative. The upright stems to 2' are clothed in dark round leaves with a wide gold border, changing to cream as the weather warms. In midsummer, they are clothed with star-shaped golden flowers with bronze centers... incredibly striking. L. 'Alexander' is best in moist conditions, although it should tolerate a good dry location. This is one of those plants that you will fall in love with... I promise!
