(aka: Ludwigia SECP15) We have fallen in love with the summer flowering, southeastern US coastal native, Ludwigia maritima. Found naturally in low pinelands and wet ditches, Ludwigia maritima has thrived in half day sun under our typical garden conditions. Starting for us in late June and continuing all summer, seaside primrose-willow forms a shrubby clump of upright cinnamon red stems, clothed in small green willow-like leaves and topped with hundreds of small, four-petaled bright yellow flowers...a favorite of bumblebees. It's easy to spot the resemblance to its better known cousin, the evening primrose, Oenothera, and its performance in the perennial garden is hard to beat. We've christened our selection from Brunswick County, NC, as Ludwigia 'Life's a Beach'.
