One of our favorite fairy garden plants has to be the Southeast US native bog buttons. Whitehead bog buttons can be found growing in low, moist ditches and pinelands from Virginia south to Texas. This 2026 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction is from Johnston County, NC. In the garden, the tiny flattened tuft-like clumps of evergreen lily-looking foliage are topped, starting in mid-May, with hundreds of 4-5" tall, narrow, antennae-like spikes, each ending in a little greyish-white fuzz ball (flower). Moist soils and good sun are required for cultivation, although Lachnocaulon anceps adapts very well to container culture. Whitehead bog buttons is a real cutie that kids and fairies, both young and old will enjoy!
