This choice clumping form of the Southeast US native Iris verna usually occurs in rocky woodlands in the mountain and piedmont regions. Iris verna makes a small mound of 6-8" tall iris-like leaves appearing from a dormant rhizome that lies on top of the ground. Emerging in May and June are 8" tall flowering stalks topped with cute medium blue flowers, each accented with an orange throat.
