Hosta 'Royal Crest', developed at Walters Gardens, is the upgraded replacement for the old garden standard, Hosta 'Royal Standard'. The parent was incidentally, the first hosta to receive a US plant patent (1965). Hosta 'Royal Crest' is a ploidy mutant of the original, and forms a 28" tall x 50" wide clump of thick green leaves, topped in mid-August/September with 3' tall, sturdy spikes of near white, very fragrant flowers. As is the case with Hosta 'Royal Standard', Hosta 'Royal Crest' is very sun tolerant in soils with some moisture.
