What a stunning specimen! Imagine taking an old favorite like Mildred Seaver's Hosta 'Sea Thunder' and making the leaves twice as thick to prevent sun scald, the edges twice as wide to provide more vigor, and the flowers twice as large. If you have a good imagination, then you can imagine Hosta 'American Sweetheart', named after the hosta queen herself. Each glossy green leaf is highlighted by a dramatic, creamy-white central pattern that holds all season. In midsummer, the 2' wide clump is topped with 3' tall spikes of light lavender flowers. Hosta 'American Sweetheart' is an intentional tetraploid that resulted in a much-improved garden specimen over its predecessor.
