(aka: H. lasiocarpus) We are excited to be able to finally share a plant that has been a real star in our display garden. From the California disjunct population of this Midwest native, H. lasiocarpus, this seed strain produces plants with wonderfully hairy round green leaves clothing the thick green 3' tall stalk. From midsummer until early fall, the plant is topped with 4" flared clear white flowers, each with a dramatic wine-black blotch at the base of the throat. In fall, the 1' cluster of dried seed pods top the stalks through the winter as a respite for birds in search of a snack. This has been amazingly easy to grow, both in wet sites as well as drier locations.
