(aka: Hesperaloe parviflora var. engelmannii) Hesperaloe engelmannii is a closely related plant to the better-known Hesperaloe parviflora, but larger in all parts. The darker green leaves can reach just over 3' long, and the flower spikes, which rise alongside the leaves, can reach 7'+ tall. The bright red calyces open to reveal soft pink flowers. Hesperaloe engelmannii is from central Texas, far to the north of the native range of Hesperaloe parviflora, so it should have better winter hardiness. Our offering is grown from seed from San Saba County (WMR11-6-100821), thanks to plantsman, Wade Roitsch.
