    While certainly not the most spectacular of the hellebores, there are few better work horses in the woodland garden that H. viridis. In very early spring (February- April) in NC, the narrow semi-evergreen foliage serves as a nice foil to the stalks of 1" round green flowers. This easy to grow lenten rose prefers deciduous woodland conditions and has an amazing tolerance of wet clay alkaline soils.
