Glaucium (not to be confused with glaucidium) grandiflorum is an amazing evergreen perennial from Turkey and the surrounding regions. Glaucium grandiflorum forms a lovely, ground-hugging, bright silver, cut-leaf, evergreen rosette that bursts forth from late spring into summer with 3' tall spikes of 2" bright orange, cupped flowers, most highlighted by a central cluster of orange stamens and a dark basal blotch. In gravelly soils, expect some self-seeding. Well-drained soils and bright sun are the keys for best performance of this insanely easy-to-grow gem. Medicinally, Glaucium grandiflorum has been used as both an anti-inflammatory and analgesic, so grow enough and you can doctor the whole neighborhood.
