Garrya wrightii is a little-cultivated evergreen desert shrub, native to shaded alkaline rocky cliffs from 5,000' to 8,000' elevation in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. The 7' tall plants are adorned with terminal spikes of leucothoe-like white flowers in spring, followed by attractive clusters of purple berries. This is a seed-grown collection from Catron County, New Mexico, in the hopes of finding a form that will survive in Zone 7b. So far, so good, after over a year in the ground.
