Festuca 'Cool as Ice' is the first blue fescue that's been successful long term in our hot, humid summer climate. Over the years, we've tried virtually every new selection, which all die out after the first year. Finally, this amazing Brent Horvath selection has proven to the be the holy grail we've been looking for. Festuca 'Cool as Ice' is a cross of Festuca glauca and a plant that was most likely Festuca idahoensis. For us, it makes a 10" tall x 1' wide evergreen clump of narrow blue foliage, which is superb for making color and textural combinations in the garden.
