(Eriogonum A5TX-011) Eriogonum 'ET' is our 2023 introduction of a seed strain of Eriogonum longifolium var. longifolium, a little-known rock garden plant, native to the lower Midwest (Arkansas to Arizona), where it can be found growing in dry sandy soils. The rosette is composed of 5" long x 1" wide dark green, pubescent silvery-backed leaves. The 2' tall flower spikes extend upward before branching horizontally like an ET antennae, finally opening for us in early July to reveal small hairy white flowers that are favorites of native bees. The roots of Eriogonum longifolium has been used as food by the Kiowa tribes, a root concoction to treat stomach ailments by the Comanche, and as an ornamental by rock gardeners. Our offering are seed-grown plants from our original collection in Nacogdoches County, Texas....that's "ET" or East Texas to non-Texans.
