Eragrostis elliottii 'KaBoom' is a 2025 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of an amazing, but little-known Southeast (NC to Texas) native ornamental lovegrass. Our seed strain originated from Jasper County, SC. The compact deciduous clump to 1' tall x 2' wide is topped, starting for us in mid-September, with dense, airy red plumes. Unlike the similar looking Eragrostis spectabilis, this species doesn't seem to die out after a few years and randomly relocate itself into other parts of the garden. If you've tried Eragrostis elliottii of the trade, it's hopelessly mixed with the South African, Eragrostis chloromelas.
