The rare evergreen fairy wing, Epimedium chlorandrum from Sichuan, China, was identified as a new species in 1997, and our form is a Dan Hinkley collection, DJHC705. We've added the cultivar name Epimedium chlorandrum 'Sichuan Spider' to distinguish this clone from other imposters floating around as Epimedium chlorandrum. Epimedium 'Sichuan Spider' forms a glossy-foliaged 2' tall clump. In early spring, the long arching flower spikes emerge, each bearing 30-60 flowers and backed by two three-leaflet leaves (often red mottled). The stalks hold 1.5" flowers that dangle like large yellow spiders, each backed by long white sepals and touched off by a blush of purple on the back. This vigorous grower has been an amazing performer for us...we think you will enjoy it as well.
