Drimiopsis sp. nov. Kampersrus is an un-named species of drimiopsis that was recently discovered and came into cultivation circa 2014 without a published specific epithet. This fascinating species hails from South Africa's Limpopo Province, near the town of Kampersrus. For us, Drimiopsis sp. nov. Kampersrus emerges in spring and grows through the summer with oblong light green leaves, highlighted by prominent dark green longitudinal bands. The small, tight clumps are adorned by short spikes of small white flowers in early May (NC). Eventually forming a 6" tall x 1' wide clump, these fit perfectly in a typical rock garden, where they are winter hardy, and make great container plants in colder regions. Our plants have been in the ground since 2018, and have so far survived 11 degrees F with no difficulties.
