(aka: Disporum cantoniense 'Night Heron' DJHC739) Disporum longistylum 'Night Heron' is a 2002 Dan Hinkley/Heronswood introduction selected from a 1996 seed collection in Sichuan, China. The 30" tall, arching, bamboo-like stems are adorned with narrow evergreen leaves that emerge dark purple in early spring before turning green. Night Heron Solomon's seal seems to grow much taller in the Pacific Northwest, where it reportedly tops out at a Paul Bunyanesque 5'. The small, early spring-borne, terminal flowers are creamy white. For us, Disporum longistylum 'Night Heron' is evergreen above 10 degrees F.
