This new vigorous Dianthus alpinus hybrid from John Whetman of the UK makes a tight mat of blue-grey foliage, topped in spring with single fragrant flowers. Each flower is pure white with a dramatic maroon eye-ring at the center. Although we have yet to confirm this trait, D. 'Brilliant Star' is supposed to re-bloom through the summer. This is certain to become a new standard in hardy garden pinks.
