(aka: Dianella 'DBB03') Dianella 'Cassa Blue' is touted as a hardy form of the Australian landscape staple Dianella caerulea, but we doubted the hardiness claims until our trial plants came through our mid-single digit winter cold during the winter of 2013/2014...now, we'd like to share. Dianella 'Cassa Blue' forms a dwarf phormium-like clump of stiffly upright, glaucous silver-blue 0.75" wide foliage that forms a tight 20" tall x 3.5' wide clump. Dianella 'Cassa Blue' is adorned with 15" tall flower stalks of small blue flowers in late spring/early summer. Dianellas prefer full sun and well-drained soils. Dianella 'Cassa Blue' is a 1996 Todd Layt/Ozbreed Plants introduction, a hybrid of a Dianella caerulea from Sydney and the baby daddy was most likely Dianella longifolia...what a splendid union!
