This old Thad Howard-named hybrid from the TX garden of Fred Jones is a cross between C. 'Peachblow' and C. 'Cecil Houdyshel'. Like the arms of a giant octopus, the glossy green, 3' long x 3" wide, strap-shaped leaves arch out and downward from the giant bulb. This bold mound of foliage is softened, beginning in mid-June, with 4' stalks, each topped with up to a dozen deliciously fragrant, 7" long x 3" wide, purplish pink flowers (RHS 62B). In windy areas, the giant flower stalks may need support groups. Actually, make that regular supports for the wife says the support groups are what I need.
