Crinum x augustum is one of the giant trunked crinum lilies that has been thoroughly confused since being named in the early 1800s. Crinum x augustum is an old hybrid, thought to predate Christopher Columbus and for those who passed history classes...that's darn old. Crinum x augustum is a sterile hybrid of probably Crinum zeylanicum x Crinum asiaticum. Since Crinum x augustum has been around the proverbial block, it can now be seen growing in tropical climates worldwide. Crinum x augustum produces massive, outward spreading leaves. Each clump is adorned in late summer and fall with 4' tall maroon spikes that open to reveal incredible deep maroon buds which then open into large, intensely fragrant, light pink flowers with a dark maroon stripe down the back of each petal. Crinum x augustum is an amazing plant where it is winter hardy outdoors.
