C. heterocarpa emerges in the fall to make a short mound of bright green foliage. As spring approaches, the plant explodes like Superman out of a phone booth into a 2' tall x 2' wide mound...yes, supercorydalis! In late winter (south) and early spring (north), the clump is smothered in yellow flowers...we often get sporadic flowering from seedlings through the summer. Although it prefers a moist soil, it has proven to be amazingly drought-tolerant. Although the plant can be short-lived, the over-abundance of seedlings will make sure you have enough for the neighbors after the first season...get the camera ready and call the neighbors!
