Coreopsis tripteris 'Lightning Flash' is an amazing selection of the Midwest native (Wisconsin south to Texas) Coreopsis tripteris that was discovered as a seedling in the former Messenbrink's Nursery just outside of Raleigh, NC. The screaming gold, narrow, qinquefoliate leaves adorn the sturdy 3' tall stalks. Coreopsis 'Lightning Flash' is truly an amazing beacon in the spring garden. By late July (NC), the leaves age to chartreuse, at which time the terminal clusters of yellow daisies top the plant. Our seven-year-old patch has spread to 4' in width...far slower than the more aggressive typical green form of this moisture-loving species.
