WOW! How often do you discover a native plant (forests and rock outcrops from Missouri south to Florida and east to NC) that is seemingly new to horticulture and is a truly great garden plant? Well, thanks to Alabama native-plant-guru, Jan Midgley, we would like to share this superb coreopsis with you. From a winter rosette, the arching foliage makes a 3' wide clump by late summer. From late April until late summer, the clumps are smothered with 1" round orange discs, hovering just above the foliage.... this is in very dry non-irrigated border! C. pubescens is relatively short-lived, but does tend to seed back well, into the original spot.
