Chamaelirium japonicum is a little-known Asian member of the lily family (although some taxonomists opt for either Melanthiaceae or Trilliaceae). Chamaelirium japonicum makes a flat evergreen rosette to 6" wide in the woodland garden. In April/May, the rosettes are topped with 1' tall spikes of pure white, lightly-scented, pipe cleaner-like flowers...high on the cute scale but it's no pansy. We have found Chamaelirium japonicum quite easy to grow in rich, reasonably moist organic soils.
