This European introduction from the early 1900's is truly one of the best garden-worthy campanulas, as it neither dies quickly nor takes over the garden with equal speed. In dry or wet soils, C. glomerata 'Superba' makes a nice, slowly spreading clump of small fuzzy, heart-shaped green leaves. I have heard that it is more aggressive in the North, but then again, what isn't? The mat of flat foliage serves as a background for the 24" tall spikes of violet bells in summer.
