Bletilla 'Weaver's Pink', a plant we received years ago from We-Du Nursery co-founder, Dick Weaver, has performed exceptionally in our trials. According to Dick, it is a seedling of Bletilla ochracea, which he received years earlier from China. We think it's more likely a hybrid of Bletilla striata x ochracea, but regardless, it's great, so we are introducing and naming it after Dick. The vigorous and incredibly floriferous clumps are topped with 40" tall stalks, starting for us in mid-May and continuing all summer. The 3-4 way branched stalks are topped with lovely creamy white flowers, that open from lavender buds. Each flower is further highlighted by lavender petal exteriors and a light yellow ruffled throat, highlighted by magenta flecks. A mass of Bletilla 'Weaver's Pink' is stunning in the summer garden. We find that full to part sun produces the best floral show.
