Bletilla ochracea 'Oriental Gold' is an incredible selection of the normally yellow-flowered hardy Asian ground orchid, shared by plantsman Alan Galloway. The 18" tall pleated green leaves compose a fast-multiplying, dense clump. Starting in late May (NC), the clumps are topped with 3' tall spikes of near white flowers, highlighted by a dark yellow lip, flecked in maroon...heaviest toward the throat. For us, Bletilla 'Oriental Gold' flowers well into early August when other bletillas have long since slowed. We have found Bletilla ochracea to grow well in half day sun.
