Bletilla 'Candles in the Wind' is a 2022 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a Peter Zale (Longwood Gardens) hybrid, which forms a dense, vigorous clump that produces masses of incredible 4' tall spikes, laden with white flowers, blushed pink and with a yellow-tipped tongue. The three-way branched spikes produce an insane number of flowers and an equally insane number of bumblebees, starting for us in mid-May and continuing through July. Our plant which went into the ground in 2013 expanded to a 6' wide patch by 2021...vigor unlike any bletilla we've ever seen. Full sun for at least a couple of hours produces the best results, while it doesn't seem picky about soil moisture.
