(coll. # 96csc555) From the 1996 China expedition, thanks to the eyes of Darrell Probst, comes this new form of the easy-to-grow hardy begonia. Collected in the Wolong region, along the Pitiao River in Sichuan at 5,445' elevation, this form of B. sinensis not only has a much darker pink flower (inside and out) but also has a much later season than the typical species. For us, typical B. sinensis has gone dormant by the end of September, but this selection is in full flower from early July until the end of October. The 10" tall mounds of fuzzy green foliage make a 2' wide clump, spreading slowly via the tiny bulbils that drop from the leaf axils, so expect a nice patch.
