From our 1998 North Texas seed collections of the native Baptisia minor, we selected Baptisia 'Blue Pearls' for its floriferous nature and superb form. Typically, Baptisia minor is a sparse-flowered species with 3-8 flower spikes per clump, but a mature deer-resistant clump of Baptisia 'Blue Pearls' produces over fifty, 3' tall flower spikes of light blue flowers that well exceed the 26" foliage. After flowering, the foliage expands, making a beautiful fine-textured 2' wide mound for the summer. In late summer, the large black pods that top the clump add to the ornamental value.
