This is a hard-to-find Midwest native baptisia with the typical blue-green, pea-like foliage but on a much shorter plant... to 18" tall x 3' wide. This early flowering species is adorned with long spikes of creamy yellow flowers that are held horizontally. B. leucophaea is incredibly effective when planted on top of a rock wall where the flowers can be viewed at eye level.
