(aka: Athyrium oblitescens) Athyrium otophorum 'Okanum' is a lovely 1.5' tall x 1.5' wide, deer-resistant Asian fern that's so unique it's recognizable from quite a distance. The triangular, plastic-feeling, pewter-green fronds are accented with dark reddish stipes (stems). When the new growth of Athyrium otophorum emerges, the contrast of the unfurling, reddish new foliage is dynamite against the green of the more mature fronds...outstanding as a tardily deciduous specimen plant in the woodland garden! Average to slightly moist soils are preferred.
