The year was 1997 when we first saw Astilbe 'Amber Moon' in the garden of its creator, Darrell Probst. Despite desperately trying to get it into cultivation earlier, a series of horticultural mishaps delayed its official introduction. We are pleased to present this amazing gold foliage selection of the heat-tolerant Astilbe chinensis. Astilbe chinensis 'Amber Moon' makes a 30" tall x 18" wide clump of golden foliage which emerges brightest in spring when each leaf also sports a narrow red edge. In June (NC), the clumps are topped with 30" spikes of pink bottlebrush-like flowers. Moist soils and part sun are best.
