(syn: Symphyotrichum laeve) This introduction from native plant guru, Dr. Dick Lighty, retired director of the Mt. Cuba Center in DE, is the best form of our native Aster laevis that we have seen. The larger than normal blue flowers (1"+) are borne in large clusters at the top of a 4' vase-shaped specimen, beginning for us in mid-September. The wide green leaves have the feel of tire retreads... very durable! Perfect for any perennial border to provide a little late season color.
