In the early 1990s we made several wide, interspecific Jack-in-the-pulpit crosses, not realizing distantly related species like Arisaema heterophyllum and Arisaema fargesii wouldn't cross. Thank goodness, our plants didn't read the scientific literature. After 20 years of evaluation and propagation, we were pleased to introduce Arisaema 'Crossing Over' in 2015...a Plant Delights hybrid that combines the best traits of each parent. The 30" tall stalks are topped, starting in early May (NC), with a stunning dark purple spathe highlighted by dramatic creamy yellow veins and an upright, whip-like spadix. The foliage is intermediate between the three- and five-leaflet parents. A rich, but well-drained woodland soil will produce the best results. Arisaema 'Crossing Over' is slow to offset.
