Andropogon gerardii 'Lord Snowden' is a superb, powder blue foliage form of big bluestem from Texas, discovered by Texas Master Naturalist and grass guru, John Snowden. The clump gives rise to 7' tall, vertical flower spikes in late summer. In 20 years of trials at JLBG, it has shown amazing drought tolerance and durability. Although often native to alkaline soils, it also thrives in our acidic soils. In fall, the seed heads emerge a beautiful reddish orange. This selection was so outstanding, it was named after John by California grass guru, John Greenlee.
