Alocasia 'Dark Star' is a superb 2016 LariAnn Garner introduction, from her cross of Alocasia odora and Alocasia 'Imperial Dark'. The result is an amazing specimen that we've trialed with great success since 2020. For us, it forms a large, impressive clump to 6' tall by the end of the growing season, with the giant foliage held on shiny black stems. So far, our plants have survived 11 F degrees, dying back to the ground. In the colder end of it's hardiness range, it's best to keep it as dry out possible during the winter. North of Zone 7b, it's best to dig and store the dormant tuber in fall and overwinter it in a garage or basement, held just above freezing.
