Allium keeverae is a very rare, imperiled Southeast US native onion (G2 rank), which can only be found growing in calcitic seepages on granite domes on two Western NC counties. Formerly considered a variety of Allium cuthbertii, Allium keeverae was subsequently found to constitute a separate species. In May, the 15" tall clumps are topped with small clusters of light pink flowers. Our plants have thrived in our crevice garden, but when given moisture can double that height. Thanks to the late plantsman, Dr. Larry Mellichamp for sharing plants, which originated on Alexander County's (NC) Rocky Face Mountain. We hope you'll help us conserve and share.
