Several years ago...2008 to be exact...we spotted a bright yellow plant in a pot of otherwise typical Agave victoriae-reginae seedlings. The golden baby was plucked from among its siblings and given a place of honor in our agave greenhouse until it finally reached the age of consent, and we were able to send it out into the world. Agave victoriae-reginae 'Golden Surprise', a 2018 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction, is a gold-leaved century plant that's brightest in spring, but still retains a good chartreuse gold even during the summer months. The 15" tall x 18" wide rosette has surprising vigor, even producing pups at a young age. Agave victoriae-reginae is very sensitive to too much water in both summer and winter, so err on the dry side.
