(MG coll: #1898.72) From the mountain range of Sierra Madre Oriental in Mexico comes this rare agave species. For us, A. schidigera makes a splendid, dark green ball, covered with curly white, hair-like filaments...looks like another case for Rogaine. The 1' long leaves, often highlighted with grey-white markings, make a single (non-suckering) rosette to 20" wide. In time, the monocarpic clumps will become topped with 7' tall spikes of small green-to-yellow flowers. It has proven to be surprisingly hardy in our garden with absolutely no damage at 9 degrees F.
