Agave ovatifolia 'Vanzie' is a clonal selection of the fabulous whale's tongue agave from plantsman Kelly Griffin. Our oldest specimen (2014) of the powder blue-leaved Agave ovatifolia 'Vanzie' is 4' tall x 7' wide after only seven years. Agave ovatifolia 'Vanzie' was selected for its splendid ventral leaf folds, smaller teeth, a more scalloped, wavy leaf edge, and a very fast growth rate. Agave ovatifolia 'Vanzie' has been superb in our garden trials for damp, cold winter tolerance. Good drainage, dry winter soils, and moisture protection during the first winter are still important.
