We are thrilled to offer the rarely grown century plant, Agave ocahui var. longifolia. Our offering represents seed-grown plants from our original 1999 planted specimen that flowered in 2011. Agave ocahui var. longifolia is an odd agave, occurring in Sonora, Mexico, at 1,500-4,500', between the towns of Matape and Sahuaripa. In the wild, Agave ocahui var. longifolia grows alongside typical Agave ocahui, but still comes true from seed, indicating it may actually be a separate species. For us, Agave ocahui var. longifolia forms a 30" tall x 5' wide clump of 1" wide, straight, green leaves sans side spines. The amazing flower spike emerges reddish-pink, then morphs into an intricately adorned thick, brown, upward-climbing snake, opening finally as a sparkling flagpole of bright yellow...truly stunning. Agave ocahui var. longifolia is a non-offsetting century plant species and consequently makes a lovely specimen plant.
