(syn: A. polycantha var. jalapensis) This collection of the rare (or should I say obscure) North American native agave hails from the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz, where it can be found on rocky, granite/basalt outcrops. This small 2' wide, rarely suckering, century plant forms a tight mound of green, small-spined leaves, topped when mature with a dramatic 15' tall flower spike of dark red flowers.
