A. chrysantha, native to the volcanic cliffs in central Arizona (3000-6000' elevation), is similar to A. palmeri and is considered a subspecies by some botanists. The grayish-yellow leaves form an incredibly large clump to 3' tall x 4' wide...the largest-growing of the native US agaves.
