The late TX plantsman Logan Calhoun found this Mexican escapee growing in Junction, TX (2 hours northwest of San Antonio) and kindly shared it with us just prior to his death. While we have managed to winter-kill most A. americana clones, this one has survived since 1999 with no protection. When temperatures drop into the single digits, it will experience some leaf scorch but never serious damage. For us, the powder-blue clump has only reached 3' tall x 4' wide but could get larger in a warmer climate. A. 'Junction' also offsets quite well, so there will be plenty to share with your neighbors.
