This native of Central Japan is an easy-to-grow gem for the woodland garden. The sturdy 2' tall spikes of green, callirhoe-like deer-resistant foliage are topped in fall (September-October) with clusters of blue-lavender, helmet-shaped flowers. With few shade plants willing to flower in the fall, the Japanese monkshood is a welcome addition.
