(aka: Aconitum senanense var. incisum) Aconitum hakusanense is a little-known monkshood that despite originating in the cold winter region of Honshu, Japan, has thrived in our hot, humid summers, where few hooded monks fear to tread. This Crug Farm introduction is a lowland, Japan sea-side collection from only 800' elevation in Fukui, where it grows in light shade with Iris japonica. The sturdy 3' tall stalks are clothed with dark green, deeply-incised foliage and topped for us in October with terminal clusters of showy lavender blue flowers.
